How this work came together

Resource pooling and shared learning

Pooling expertise and capacity, the Observatory has worked with partners across Bristol, North Somerset & South Gloucestershire to build the infrastructure behind this baseline data — and the tools on this site.

The collective aims are to:

  • Improve local understanding of the VCSE sector, including its strengths and challenges
  • Contribute to a fairer, more transparent approach to funding and resource allocation
  • Support a more collaborative and integrated VCSE sector

Collaborative action research

This project treats the process of gathering and analysing data as seriously as the findings themselves. We’ve worked with VCSE organisations and infrastructure bodies so collection is sensitive to how the sector works — and so the results are useful back to it.

Delivered for the VCSE Alliance as part of the national State of the Sector programme.
